There are provisions in Fire Service, Civil Defence & Home Guards to confer honour to any paid staff member or volunteer either individually or collectively in recognition of conspicuous good work, work of outstanding nature, gallantry, devotion to duty, etc. in various forms as per following details:-

A. FOR HOME GUARDS & CIVIL DEFENCE

Cash Awards:-

  • Upto Rs. 3000/- per head by DGCD of the Ministry and upto Rs. 1500 per head by DCDs & CGHGs of the States/UTs.

DGCD's Commendation Certificate & Disc:-

  • The recommendation for these are to be initiated by an officer not below the rank of District Commandant or Controller of Civil Defence and are required to be suitably endorsed by DCDs & CGHGs of the State. No momentary grant is attached to this certificate. The DGCD's Commendation certificate and disc are meant for such good work as done by the member of both the organisation which deserves recognition, but does not warrant award of medals. The Certificate is not awarded posthumously. Suitable entries are made in Service Book/Service Record of the awardees. The rule governing the award of this certificate has been circulated to all Director Civil Defence and Commandant General Home Guards is given at Letter No. VI-11023/1/2010-DGCD(CD) dated 21/09/2010.

Medals:- Two types of Gallantry Medals and two types of Service Medals have been instituted in October, 1974 by a presidential Notification for Home Guards & Civil Defence, as per following details:-

Gallantry Medals

  • i)President's HG & CD Medal for gallantry.

  • ii)HG & CD Medal for gallantry

Service Medals

  • i)President's HG & CD Medal for Distinguished Service.

  • ii)HG & CD Medal for Meritorious Service.

This is being awarded every year during Republic Day & Independence Day on recommendation of State/UT Government. A lumpsum monetary grant of Rs. 3000/- is attached with President's HG & CD Medal for gallantry and Rs. 1500/- for HG & CD medal for gallantry. No monetary benefit is attached with Service Medals of any type.

The details of honour, awards and medals in vogue has been clarified in Notification dated date 19/10/1974.

B.FOR FIRE SERVICE

Two types of Gallantry Medals and two types of Service Medals have been instituted in October, 1975 by a presidential Notification for Fire Service as per following details:-

Gallantry Medals

  • President's Fire Service Medal for gallantry.

  • Fire Service Medal for gallantry

Service Medals/strong>

  • President's Fire Service Medal for Distinguished Service.

  • Fire Service Medal for Meritorious Service.

The details of honour, awards and medals in vogue has been clarified in Notification dated 19th May,1975.

This is being Award every year during Republic Day & Independence Day on the recommendation of State/UT Government. The monetary allowance attached to the aforesaid two Gallantry Medals have been enhanced to Rs. 3000/- (from Rs. 1500/-) for President's Fire Service Medal for gallantry and Rs. 2000/- (from Rs. 900/-) for Fire Service Medal for gallantry vide Notification no. 29-pres/2015 dated. 25.03.2015. The details for award of various types of Fire Service Medals have been described in Section 14, pp. 33 of Compendium of Recommendations of SFAC, part-I to be read with Appendix-14A, pp. 93-107 of Part-I.
